In the wake of World War II, many Black veterans returned home seeking the same opportunities and support they had fought to defend overseas. In response to those challenges, American Legion Post 710 was founded in 1953 and named in honor of Guy Wynton Morris, a local soldier remembered for his dedication to veterans and the San Bernardino community.
Community leaders James Guy, Edward Greer, and Jack Hill helped establish a place where veterans could find camaraderie, advocacy, and support. Their vision was simple but powerful: create a post rooted in service, empowerment, and honor.
For more than seven decades, Post 710 has served as a cornerstone for veterans and their families. Many of its members became influential voices in civic leadership, community advancement, and the ongoing pursuit of equality and opportunity.
Today, Post 710 continues that mission through veteran support programs, community outreach, facility improvements, and initiatives that strengthen San Bernardino. As we honor our history, we remain committed to restoring a legacy and building a future for the next generation of veterans and families.
Welcome to American Legion Post 710. We are entering a new era of restoration, growth, and service. Together, we are rebuilding what once was, creating what will be, and strengthening our community for future generations.
